Adventures in Cabarete, Dominican Republic

In November 2017, I spent a few weeks in the Dominican Republic. It was my second time there, but Cabarete was one of the places I visited for the first time. A friend I met on my previous trip to the DR recommended I visit Cabarete, and I'm so glad I did.

Some of the highlights of my time spent in Cabarete were:

  • The amazing atmosphere of Laguna Park Hostel. It was so easy to make friends and everyone was great to hang out with. It truly felt like family, and I was sad to leave after only four days. I've never experienced a hostel culture like that. Plus, the hostel is a castle with a pool and trampoline!
  • Cabarete is world famous for amazing conditions for kite boarding and wind surfing. I went to Kite Beach one day and had the whole beach to myself due to terrible wind conditions. I didn't mind at all, though, as I love deserted beaches.
  • I spent an afternoon at a private beach behind the grocery store. The security guard that worked there let me in and I had the whole beach to myself, including views of kite boarders and wind surfers! So cool!
  • I spent a morning exploring the caves of Cabarete. You can swim in the crystal clear water and I loved learning about the local plant and wildlife on the tour. Off the beaten path but a really interesting stop if you enjoy nature.
  • Buying a picnic dinner at the grocery store and eating it poolside at the hostel. Passionfruit cake, lunch meat ham and cheese with plantain chips, and a fresh pineapple (OMG so good!).
  • Nights out with new friends from the hostel. Dancing, drinks, and an International Dinner. Great memories!
