1. What’s the minimum layover time I need for my flight? I recommend at least a 2 hour layover, as sometimes the first flight may be delayed and arrive late. You may have to sprint across a large airport, and having at least 2 hours will generally cause less stress. If you can’t find a flight with at least a 2 hour layover, you may also consider flying in the day before the trip starts. Send me an email and we can discuss what this would entail and I’ll help you get that set up, if you choose to go that route.
  2. What ages are the participants? Previous trips have had participants from their 20’s to their 50’s. All ages above 21 are welcome.
  3. Do I need travel insurance? I highly recommend purchasing travel insurance. Shop around and compare policies. You should be able to get a policy for less than $100 through companies like World Nomads or your airline company.
  4. Is my flight included? You are responsible for purchasing your own flight- it is not included.
  5. What’s included? Your accommodations, in country transit, activities, drinking water, all meals, some alcohol, and tips for all staff. Matt and I will also be snapping pictures of the group to share with you later.
  6. This is my first time out of the country. What should I expect? We are going to have a great time experiencing the hospitable Latin American culture and practicing our Spanish. I’ll guide you through the whole process and make sure all your questions and concerns are answered.
  7. This is my first time traveling by myself. What should I expect? I’ll guide you through the whole process and make sure all your questions and concerns are answered. We will all bond through our shared activities during this trip, and I’ll make sure everything goes smoothly for you every step of the way.
  8. I don’t know anyone on this trip. What should I expect?  I’ll guide you through the whole process and make sure all your questions and concerns are answered. We will all bond through our shared activities during this trip, and I’ll make sure everything goes smoothly for you every step of the way. We’ll be mixing up who rides with whom in the taxis so we all get to know each other, and we’ll have optional group hang out time at the hostel in the evenings. It’s going to be fun! Plus, we have our monthly video chat meetups in English to get to know each other before the trip starts!
  9. I don’t speak that much Spanish. Will that be a problem? Any Spanish you can learn before you depart will be helpful. Some people do speak English in major cities, and I’m fluent in Spanish and will be with you the whole time. Adventure immersion trips come with Spanish lessons from sign up through departure to get you comfortable speaking the language.
  10. Are the activities dangerous? You can opt out of any activities you don’t feel comfortable with. Let us know in advance if possible if you plan to opt out of an event. There are inherent risks with any activity in life, and you have to decide if you feel comfortable.
  11. What happens if I have to drop out of the trip? If you need to cancel your spot after the cut off date for any reason, your deposit is nonrefundable. Any additional funds you have paid besides the deposit will be refunded or can be credited towards Spanish lessons. If you cancel your spot before the cut off date, all funds paid (including the deposit) will be refunded or credited towards Spanish lessons.
  12. What about alcohol, tobacco and substance use? There will be group situations with optional alcohol consumption, including evening hang out time at the hostels. If you consume alcohol, it is at your own risk. Substance use (marijuana and other drugs that are not legal in all 50 states) will not be permitted on the trip. Tobacco usage is allowed in all outside areas where smoking is allowed.
  13. What about customs? I’ll walk you through exactly what to expect in customs. Most customs officials don’t speak English, but they just want to know basic things like if you have anything to declare, what the purpose of your trip is, where you are going, and for how long. I’ll share more information on this as departure approaches.
  14. What if I want to arrive earlier or stay later? Great! Just let me know if you are coming in early or departing later and we can help coordinate details. You’ll be responsible for any costs before Sunday dinner and hostel accommodations, and after Saturday breakfast and Saturday morning hostel check out.
